“Emancipate I" was my first large-scale outdoor sculpture. The images
below show different views of the piece as it was installed on the beach at Sculpture Key West 2009. It is now permantly
installed in a private collection in Mt. Kisco, NY.
This piece was inspired by my memories of living on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, watching the dolphins jumping
through the waves with care-free joy an dthe birds diving effortlessly into the blue-green vastness. For me these images
represent freedom and liberation. The constraints of life can sometimes be overwhelming and our self-impossed constraints
can further limit ourperception of freedom. For me, this sculpture represents the release from the social and internal limits in
which we subscribe.
